Okay, So Are We Sick of Soup?
This was a brave title because I know there are a lot of soup warriors out there.
Before you all jump down my throat for the title of this post- just WAIT.
I think we can ALL agree that March/ April hits and we officially find ourselves back in a meal prep rut. The “cozy” meals such as your typical soups and stews start to get tired.
You find yourself yearning for a pina colada on a beach. The idea of chopping up another mirapoix makes you want to cry on your bathroom floor. You’re craving fresh new flavors and that Uber Eats button is begging to be smashed just to get some variety going in your life.
The thing is, times are tough. We can’t be having fresh $30 sushi delivered to our door nightly (even IF this is my personal dream).
I know we are currently in this weird in between winter and spring. HOWEVER, there are a few tricks to pull yourself out of a winter meal prep rut and (hopefully) brighten up your days until we reach peak happiness (sun setting post 7 PM).
So this week, I wanted to give you guys three easy tips for refreshing your weekly menu:
Incorporate citrus at breakfast time (or whenever, really).
Specifically Sumo citrus if you are really trying to enjoy your day. That girl citrus? She is in SEASON right now. I truly do love citrus season and find that it adds such a brightness to my meals that slowly pulls me out of the reality that outside is kinda wet and gray right now. I also saw a girl on Tik Tok eat an orange in the shower and say it was a euphoric experience. I did it last week and it is further proof that I will try almost anything. ANYWAYS, recommend. Citrus is one of my favorite ways to brighten up my meals (and satisfy my need for warm weather vibes in the winter).
Pick two new veggies to add to your meals this week.
Are we sensing a theme here? I really find that produce is the best way to jazz up your meals for the week. HOWEVER, just as you are in a meal rut, you may be in a produce rut. Have you been having your spinach salad for two months straight at your desk? Do you feel like you are starring in The Land Before Time every time your lunch break rolls around (not sure if this reference is going to land, tbh)? Then, you may need to seek outside your norm for your daily veggies. For instance, my mom made an artichoke pasta when I was home last week and I was like WOW how did I forget about artichokes? Some of the most slept on (in my opinion) vegetables that are in season right now include artichokes, leeks, winter squash, bok choy, asparagus, and beets. S,o my meal prep rut prescription for you is to switch things up and call me in the morning.
Lock in and create your favorite restaurant dish at home.
As previously mentioned, it gets tough not to answer the call that is Uber Eats during those meal prep rut weeks. One of my favorite hacks for this is to pin point what I am craving (typically sushi or a really good pasta dish) and find a recipe to try out so I can make it at home. This saves money, gets my creative juices flowing in the kitchen again, and gives me some sort of sense of accomplishment for the week. Sounds simple but it really keeps me off the food delivery apps.
